Your life will never be the same again after giving birth. For me birth is about connection and capturing the small details and big emotions that tell your family’s story: the tears of joy, the soft touch of a hand and the moment you become this beautiful new family.

Hi, I'm Pinja — a spicy and experienced birth photographer from Helsinki, Finland, capturing real, emotional and powerful birth stories. My style is documentary, meaning I capture every small detail in your birth story. Working alongside midwives, doulas and partners, I become part of your birth team. I'm not only a photographer, I'm also a birth professional. I understand how birth hormones function, how to make you feel supported and how to protect your birth bubble.
My approach is simple: no posing, no interruption. Just honest documenting that tells the story of your birth. I pay attention to details you might not notice in the moment. I capture the smile from your partner, the silent whispers of midwives and the water bottle reaching out towards you. Details make the story. I'm there to support and to make sure you can stay fully in your birth bubble knowing it's being documented with love.
I'm a quiet observer, but if you like I can speak English, French and Finnish. I offer birth and postpartum photography across Helsinki and surrounding areas in Finland.
When I return home from your birth, I immediately back up all your photos to my computer and an external hard drive. Within 48 hours after your birth, I’ll edit and send you a sneak peek gallery: a small selection of preview images to share with your loved ones, friends or on social media if you wish.
You’ll receive your final photo gallery within approximately four weeks after birth (depending slightly on the season). Before that, you’ll already have at least 15 preview images to enjoy. If your package includes a birth video, the final edited film will be ready in about eight weeks.
We stay connected during early labour, and I arrive when labour is active and you’re ready for me to join. I settle in quietly and work within the space, following your rhythm and your doula’s, midwife's or team's lead.
There’s no posing or flash, no directing or rearranging. I calmly observe and cover your birth as it unfolds. Afterwards I stay for a while to document the first hours: skin-to-skin contact, feeding, quiet moments or your other kids meeting their new sibling.
Birth doesn’t follow a calendar. That’s why I only take a small number of births each year, it’s the only way to stay truly available. Once you book me, I’m on call for 4 weeks (usually from 38 weeks onwards). When labour begins, you or your partner will let me know and I will be there within 2 hours depending on our distance, day or night.
You reach out to me with your due date to book your spot. First we call, and then meet, usually at your home where you feel most comfortable. We talk through your birth hopes, any boundaries or worries and what kind of support you’d like from me. If you book me, you will get my full support and we can make a chat group to talk about anything. My approach to your birth is comprehensive.
I approach every birth with the calm, grounded energy of a doula. My camera becomes a quiet witness, allowing you to feel safe, supported, and completely present in your own experience.
We get to know one another and you will always know what to expect at any given moment. Every birth, every body, every family is different. You decide what feels right and I honour that completely.
You should feel safe, seen and cared for from our first conversation to the moment you hold your baby. I move gently, stay aware and work with your birth team to keep the space steady and calm.
I’m based in Helsinki and travel to births within roughly 2 hours drive, so that I can be on call and be there on time when you're ready. Feel free to inquire from a little further away too, and we can chat about the possibilities.
Because on-call birth means keeping my calendar free for you, I take a very limited number of births each year. It’s best to reach out early, ideally as soon as you know your due date. Below you can see my current booking situation for the next year(s).

Book a free 30 minute chat with me by clicking on your free birth month above or find your free meeting time here. If you have any questions, please read the FAQ below or just get in touch with me.
Add a birth video to the story. This is a 3-6 minute long video from one of the most special days of your life. Video is the cherry on top of the images, that beautifully complements your still photos. This service is available only as an add-on to other birth photography packages and is not sold separately.
For scheduled or planned caesareans (C-sections). I’ll join you at the hospital and document your birth calmly and respectfully, from arrival to meeting your baby.
Reflection after a hospital birth
If you’re not sure about having me as your birth photographer during labour, but still wish to capture those moments after your baby’s arrival, my postpartum photoshoot might be for you.
This intimate session takes place soon after birth, in your home or at hospital, capturing the very first hours of your new life together. I’ll quietly document the cuddles, the first feeds, the little fingers and toes and the emotions that fill the room of a newborn family. It’s a beautiful alternative for families who want the emotion and connection of birth photography without having a photographer present during the birth itself.
I bring calm and sensitive approach to every session ensuring that you feel trusted, supported and truly seen.

Thank you so much for getting in touch!
I will get back to you within 2 business days.
Fill the form below or send me an email to pinja@pinjamitrovitch.com. I respond within 48 hours on weekdays. If you don't hear from me, check your spam or get in touch again (IG works great!).
Your birth session is booked around your due date — typically between weeks 38–42. I’ll be on-call 24/7 during your chosen four-week window. Because I photograph only a few births each month, booking early (ideally during early pregnancy) ensures my availability.
I’m available day and night for four weeks around your due date. When labour begins, I’ll arrive within two hours of your call — no matter the time. You can adjust the 4 weeks on-call window to fit your preferences.
Call me and I'll try my best to come to you. But my go-to promise is to be there for you during the 4 weeks on-call period. You can extend the window for €150 per extra week to ensure peace of mind. Without an active on-call agreement, I can’t promise to arrive in time, but I’ll always respond if possible.
In all my years photographing births, I’ve never missed one — communication is the key. If an unexpected situation prevents me from arriving, you’ll receive a complimentary newborn (or family) session at home.
Simple answer is yes! My style is documentary — real, raw, and storytelling. I capture your birth authentically, respecting any boundaries you set. Each gallery includes about 150–300 images that together tell the full story.
There’s no set time limit — I stay as long as needed, usually around 4-8 hours. My focus is on documenting the full story, from early labour to your first moments as a family. If the birth would be 24hours+ I might need a backup photographer or take a nap.
Yes. I have a trusted network of professional birth photographers available in case I of emergency. You can review my backup photographers portfolio and get to know them beforehand if you like.
I’m based in Helsinki and photograph about a two-hour drive from my home: including Espoo, Hyvinkää, Hämeenlinna, Turku, and Lahti -hospitals. I also travel for planned c-sections or home births elsewhere in Finland. I’m familiar with most hospital photography policies and always confirm guidelines before each birth.
I’m one of Finland’s most experienced birth photographers, with many births behind — home, hospital, c-section, and freebirths. I’m also a mother of three (two home births) and educate new birth photographers while co-hosting a Finnish birth podcast.
I never use flash unless requested — I rely on natural or soft ambient light to keep the birth space calm and intimate. My professional cameras perform beautifully in dark settings and situations (as birth many times have).
My experience with hospital staff has been mainly positive. I communicate with everyone, introducing myself and asking permission from everyone photographed. I work quietly in the background, maintaining a calm and supportive presence. As an professional birth photographer, I'm never in the way of hospital crew and health is always priority number 1.
I photograph everything, at your comfort level. Sometimes the unplanned stories are the one that needs most of our attention. Birth photos can be helpful in a traumatic experience too. Unfortunatly, birth photographers are not welcome to join c-sections for safety reasons.
The first hour after birth is pure magic — filled with love, oxytocin, and stillness. I document those first cuddles, feedings, and family moments, the images most parents treasure forever. I would love to capture this to you, of course.
Birth packages go from €1800–€3600, depending on your chosen service. The price includes 24/7 on-call availability, professional editing and pictures (video available too), years of experience, and emotional presence throughout your birth journey.
I photograph with two memory cards and back up everything immediately to my computer and hard drives. Within 48 hours, you’ll receive a sneak peek gallery (around 15 images). Your full gallery is ready in about four weeks, and videos within eight weeks. My editing style is natural, timeless, and minimal — yet vivid.
Absolutely. Your photos and videos are completely private unless you give me permission to share them. Every image you see on my website or social media has been published with the family’s full consent.
